Cassandra Goodmansen

With a Master's degree in Natural Resources, a Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, and a Certificate in Climate Change, I am an individual prepared for the future. While working with an Indigenous Community in Idaho, I was introduced to Permaculture which opened my eyes to the potential and possibilities in thinking regeneratively.

I am dedicated to bringing forth a regenerative and resilient future. While change can be difficult it certainly is not impossible.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

- Margaret Mead

RECENT RESEARCH

Permaculture, Ecological Gardening, or what I like to call Edible Ecosystems, is the process of making truly sustainable human settlements by working with nature instead of against it. The nature based solutions I have discovered while obtaining my Permaculture Design Certificate have not only been inspirational but completely practical as well.

Even for a small city, addressing climate change is a big task. Teaming up with the Climate Action Working Group and local experts, my focus has been to help create an Impacts Assessment and Vulnerability Assessment to inform needs to be addressed in the City's Climate Action Plan.

PREVIOUS RESEARCH

With the Policy Analysis Group at the University of Idaho, I'm exploring the potential response of non-federal harvesting to increased federal harvesting, the delivered wood costs, and the effects of the forest resource base due to the use of Good Neighbor Authority in the Interior West.

For my undergraduate senior project, I was awarded a student-led project mini-grant through the University of Idaho Sustainability Center. My project, Pollinate the Palouse, involved constructing a 4,000 square foot butterfly and pollinator garden to increase habitat and biodiversity on campus.
